The Girl and Her Books’ how to read-a-lot-of-books-in-a-little-amount-of-time:
1. Set a block of time apart for your book(s)
I find it a lot easier to accomplish serious reading when I have more of a schedule. The amount of time you might want to set aside is really up to you and how many books you need to read.
2. Put some music or a show that’s not really going to grab your attention
It’s been proven that when we listen to music or watch tv that our retaining of the material isn’t as thorough as if we weren’t watching or listen to anything. Now, I can’t just sit in utter silence and read a book. I need something on. I’ll turn to my soundtrack/instrumental playlist or a show I’ve watched hundreds of times. That way I don’t distract myself.
3. Turn off your computer/cell phone
The only exception is when I’m watching a show that’s on the internet. For me, it’s easier to get distracted from reading if I have one of these be side me. I normally end up talking to my friends if I don’t get rid of them.
4. Make a reading schedule
If you’re serious about getting some reading done, you may want to make a reading schedule. You could write down how many pages or chapter you need/want to read a week to finish the book. It helps you stay organized and on task!
5. Don’t rush yourself
I’ve found if I rush myself to finish reading a book I miss out on the plot. Speed reading comes in handy at some moments, but if you’re being tested on a novel you really don’t want to fly through it. Even if you’re reading for fun, you wouldn’t want to miss important moments of the book.
6. Read EVERYWHERE!
You don’t just have to sit down to read. You can read while you’re in line in a store, waiting for class to start, during lunch, while riding the bus, or even in the bath tub!If you always carry the book with you than it’s easier to just pick it up and read when you have the down time. (Thanks to mixingtheblues for reminding me of that one.)
EXACTLY.
